Founded in 1731 in Solingen, Germany by Peter Henckels, the Gemini, or Twins logo of the Zwilling J.A. Henckels brand has become recognisable the world over. Combining traditional values with technologically advanced manufacturing techniques, Henckels knives represent the highest standards of quality and come with generations of skill and craftsmanship embodied in every blade. Still made in Solingen, where the very first factories were based, Henckels products are now available in over 100 countries around the world.
Blending traditional style with modern techniques, Henckels have invented a number of processes which differentiate their blades from other brands. Fridour® tempering, a special ice hardening technique invented by Henckels, ensure that the knives stay sharper for longer, and can also be sharpened to a finer edge. A production method known as Sintermetal Component Technology has also been developed. This method allows for a single piece of metal to be made of different grades of steel. For example, the tang of a Henckels knife has very low carbon levels and very high chromium, as the tang must be extremely corrosion resistant. The blade however requires less chromium and more carbon present, as this will result in a blade that will maintain a sharp edge, but can still be easily resharpened. In addition to these innovations, the knives are ground to a more acute angle than other, more traditional western style knives, which in conjunction with the Fridour® tempering and the Sintermetal Component Technology allows for a sharper blade that holds its edge for a long period of time.
Henckels now offer a large range of knives, in a variety of different styles and for every budget. This means that this prestigious range is accessible to keen amateurs, as well as professional chefs. Here at Pots and Pans, we offer the Four Star, Professional S, Twin Pollux and Pure ranges, as well as a selection of special offer sets. Henckels strive to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction, so when you purchase a Henckels knife, you can be sure you have a knife for life.
More recently, Henckels have branched out into the manufacture of cookware. Featuring the same skill and quality evident in their knives, Zwilling cookware is built to the highest standards. Utilising the highest quality 18/10 stainless steel, pans come in both single ply and 3-ply options. The single ply option utilises a sigmabond aluminium encapsulated base, to ensure even heat retention and distribution, whilst the 3-ply range utilises an aluminium layer sandwiched between two stainless steel layers for the construction of the entire pan. All Zwilling pans are dishwasher and oven safe, and suitable for all hobs, including induction.
