Valentines Day Ideas at Pots and Pans
Think cookware can’t be romantic? Not true!
We all know the joke about the man who got his wife an iron for Valentines day, and in return she got him divorce papers! Unfortunately, the iron can often be replaced with a stockpot, a ladle, the list is endless.
Yes it’s true, a hard anodised, non-stick saucepan probably isn’t the last word in romance, but that doesn’t mean you should steer clear of the kitchen all together, quite the contrary!
For the Girls
Instead of going out for a meal, why not spend the night at home, with some hand crafted goodies? These gifts will help you make the best impression…

1st Choice: Staub Heart Shaped Cocotte
Heart shaped, so it may seem like an obvious winner, but the trick with this is not to hand it over saying ‘what’s for dinner then?’ No, this gift should be unveiled during the 3 course dinner you have painstakingly prepared, in order to achieve the desired results (not having it thrown at you).

2nd Choice: Le Creuset Sweet Hearts Ramekin Set
For those with romantic ideals, but perhaps on a bit of a budget, this cute little set is perfect. Again though, the point is not to just hand them over, but to present them filled, either with truffles, a soufflés or maybe a fruity crumble! Just make sure the contents contain something sweet, as a steak pie may be less appealing!

What better way to say I love you, than with an artisan Japanese blade. Super sharp, and stunning looking, these Tojiro knives are the last word in quality, and an incredible gift for a budding Blumenthal!

Top 5 Must Have Kitchen Tools and Gadgets!
Kitchens and gadgets go together like bread and butter, you simply cannot have one without the other. However every year it seems like another hundred are announced, and it can become tricky to decide what gadgets you actually need, and what you could maybe do without. From Good Grips to Zyliss, here are our top 5 must have gadgets for your kitchen drawer…
Best Kitchen Gadget 1: Potato Ricer
Want super smooth mashed potatoes? Then you need a potato ricer. It works like a giant garlic press; cooked, peeled potatoes go in and smooth mash comes out. The best are stainless steel, like this one from Good Grips, which are more durable than the cheaper chrome plated options.
Best Kitchen Gadget 2: Garlic Press
Crushed garlic tastes different to chopped garlic, as more flavour is released. So if you are looking for the perfect aioli, this is the best gadget for you. The garlic press from Zyliss has a five year guarantee, and doesn’t even need you to peel the garlic clove first, making it extra practical!
Best Kitchen Gadget 3: Can Opener
Obvious and boring, but true. No kitchen can function without a can opener, it is one of the most necessary of kitchen gadgets. We find the best to be the locking can opener from Zyliss, as the locking function means it can’t ‘skip’ off the can, as some others do.
Best Kitchen Gadget 4: Microplane Grater
Every kitchen needs a grater, but the Microplane isn’t any old grater. Utilising laser etched blades, a Microplane will quickly and evenly grate anything, from ginger and garlic, to parmesan, carrots, even cabbage for coleslaw! Available in 4 different finishes you are guaranteed the best results, time and again
Best Kitchen Gadget 5: Mortar and Pestle
A classic gadget, with a hundred uses. This version from Le Creuset is both attractive, and useful. For curries, salad dressing and steak seasonings, a mortar and pestle will allow you to create imaginative recipes, time and time again. For the best results, seek out top quality ingredients for your culinary adventures!

Quadrille food books now in stock
If you have visited our website recently you might have noticed that we have started to sell a range of food books from Quadrille Publishing. This is an addition to the cookware and kitchenware that people usually associate with Pots and Pans. This is not the first time though that we have sold books, during the summer we started to sell Australian Women’s Weekly recipe books through our website. We expected these to be popular but have been surprised by just how successful these titles have been. As a result of this success we decided to expand the range of food books available on the website.
When we started to look for other publishers to stock we worked out a set of criteria that we would use to judge publishing companies. Ideally we wanted to stock only the best food books possible, we wanted to add the leading companies. We also thought that it was important if we were going to sell food books that they were books that we would want to purchase ourselves.
You only need to look at some of the authors who are published by Quadrille to see that they are one of the leading publishers of food books. Their current catalogue includes books by chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, James Martin, Mary Berry, Bill Granger and Anjum Anand as well as many others.
As we mentioned earlier recipe books have proved to be exceedingly popular with our customers. People are often looking for recipes for meals that are easy and quick to prepare but do not make any sacrifices when it comes to taste. They are looking to achieve the right balance between food that tastes good but involves the minimum time and effort to make. Recipe books are often the best place to find this type of recipe. Collections of recipes allow you to share in the knowledge and experience of some of the top chefs from one easy access point. Then there are people who are looking to be more adventurous with their cooking, they are perhaps looking at trying new ingredients, styles of cooking or even new cookery techniques. These are people who look to food books for inspiration or new ideas.
Over recent years there has been a growth in people’s knowledge and awareness of food and cooking. A major reason for the new found sense of adventure people have for cooking can be attributed in part to the rise of celebrity TV chefs.
The success of the television show is often mirrored by the volume of sales of the book associated with the programme. Included among the Quadrille books that we have added to our online shop are the Gordon Ramsay recipe books that accompany his critically acclaimed television show The F Word. James Martin, the chef who is rapidly becoming the ‘face of BBC Cookery programmes’ is another television chef whose books are being published by Quadrille. The collection of James Martin’s recipes for desserts is currently one of Quadrille’s best selling titles. The current catalogue also contains several books by Anjum Anand which tie in with her popular television series about Indian cookery. The current catalogue is not limited to the new generation of television chefs. Another famous name on the Quadrille rota of authors is Mary Berry, who is perhaps the most respected cookery writer in this country.
What all of these chefs share is a strong passion for food, you can feel this passion coming through the pages of their books. This is helped by the high publishing standards adhered to by Quadrille, the design and layout of their books is always exquisite. The sumptuous colour photography that is found in each book helps bring the recipes alive on the page.
